Brand Yourself & Get Your Dream Job 2
HOW TO BRAND YOURSELF
By now, you must now realise that you are brand, as branding is not only about product and service. I know the question on your mind now is "How do I brand myself?" Or, "what should I brand about myself to get to my dream goal or career?" Good question. Here are some of the areas you need to brand to make yourself a unique, attractive and compelling personality.
1.
Have a
Good Dress Sense: The first thing people see about you is your dressing, even
before you introduce yourself. That is why your dressing matters a lot. “The
way you dress is how you will be addressed.” If you dress a gentleman, you will
be addressed as such; if you dress as a ‘Yahoo boy; you will be addressed as
such. The way you carry yourself, walk, your breath, etc is also part of your
dressing. You need to pay attention to this.
2.
Have a
Compelling CV: Many CVs are ending in the trash-bin today because they are not
compelling, well-edited and not marketable. If you ask some young chaps who are
working in blue chips companies today, they will tell you that they branded
their CVs. Employers received hundreds of CVs when they put adverts for
vacancies. Why will your CV be picked by the headhunter for a particular post
apart from the fact that you have a good grade. You might have a good grade,
and yet not be picked. Why? It is because you CV is not compelling.
3.
Have a
Good Personality & Values: “A man’s gift makes a way for
him.” The sum totality of whom you are is very important. You may ignore or
wish it off, but that is the fact. You might not go far in life if you have a
bad personality. The way you talk, act, react to issue, how you handle
situation or respond to issues will go a long way to telling who you are.
4.
Skill
up Yourself: These days having a First Class Degree at 20s or Master degree
a very young age is not a criteria to getting good job. Employers are looking
for the values employees can add to their companies or what skills they have.
If they are lack tact and skills, it is unlikely they are employable. We are
living in a world of skills and young people need to get skills that would get
them the job they need. Besides, you need to add to your:
Etiquette
Social
Media
Soft
Skills – internet, Facebook, blogging, etc
Trending
Skill. Know what is trending.
•
Build Your I.Q: We
are living in the days of ‘What you Know’ not ‘Who you know.’ These days, most companies are looking for
high cerebral candidates and people who can think on their feet. What is the
level of your Intelligent Quotient? If I may ask, “how intelligent or witty are
you?” Can you win in “The Apprentice?” Can you dazzle your interviewer with
your intelligent? If not, you need to skill up in this area by engaging in a
number of I.Q building activities.
•
Create Unique Brand: These
days some young chaps out there are taking their destinies in their own hands
by creating a unique brand. When there is no job in sight, you gat to create
something. Sometimes, your employer would ask you if you have created something
in the last one year or so. If you don’t have a DNA, you need to learn it.
