Brand Yourself & Get Your Dream Job

“Think of yourself as a brand. You need to be remembered. What will they remember you for? What defines you? If you have something in you, do something that defines you. Invest in something, develop a unique skill, get noticed for something – it creates a talking point.”
– Chris Arnold.
Despite the much talked=about efforts by government to creates jobs for its teeming population of unemployed youths through different programmes, indications are that the worsening unemployment situation assumed an alarming proportion.
Every year, about one million Nigerians are churned out of the higher institutions of learning. Thus adding to the beleaguered labour market and creating more employment mirage.
Getting good degrees and paper qualification are no longer meal-ticket to landing the dream job you desired as it used to be two or three decades ago. These days, prospective graduates and graduates need to use their brains, get the skill, create the jobs they want in order to eke a living.

Personal branding is not all about the outward outlook like dressing and other cosmetics. No. it is actually how you see yourself, the values and ideas you have about yourself, who you are, what you stand for, what makes you a unique personality and why you think you can make impact in other people’s lives or organizations by virtues of your skills and potentials.

The subject of personal branding is very important especially in this day of mass unemployment because it would bring out the best in you and carve a niche for you. As long as we the population increases, with the need to cater for the mass army of unemployed youths, the subject of personal branding will still be important.
Many smart and young folks in Nigeria have become super brand because they understood this all-important subject that we are talking about. Just look around some of the big brands we have around us today. They are run by young chaps: Jumia, Konga, Chocolate City, Jiji, Sahara Reporters, Sahara Group, GTB, Tony Elumelu Foundatin, Facebook, etc.
As young graduates, there is no limit as to what we can achieve and the world we can create.  They are locked right inside us. Paper qualification is no longer enough, and the idea of sitting in the office and doing repetitive paperwork is fast phasing out, automation is taking over the “non-existence” jobs. Everyone has to actually contribute a utility to thrive in a new society we have collectively created if they want to remain relevant.
So, what is personal branding? It is the brand you build around yourself; it is perhaps the single most important way to stand out in your spheres of influence. It is an extension of who you are, and it's what you want to present to peers and potential clients. If you maintain a strong personal brand, your business will appear more human to others, and it will win over their trust while making you appear to be a dedicated professional.
There are many ways to build your brand, and you should seek something simple that will stay in the minds of others while building a consistent impression of your quality.
Anyone can build a personal brand, and in today's society, the time is more important than ever for you to get started.
Why is Personal Branding so Important?
§  We are living in a competitive world, and you need to raise your head from the maddening crowd. There are a thousand and one brands in the world each crying for attention. If you don’t distinguish yourself, nobody will know you
§  Nobody know who you are and it is only what you call yourself that people will call you
§  To bring out your unique personality, quality, values, skills, talents, etc and what you have to offer
§  You are created to be YOU and nobody can be YOU except only YOU
§  You are created for a purpose, so putting yourself on a pedestal will make you stand out and thus help you to fulfil God’s purpose for your life
§  These days, as the competition gets stiffer, nothing drops at your door unless you take a step, and that is projecting or branding yourself.
§  These days, people buy brand, they don’t buy product any longer. If you are not a brand, and a better one at that, nobody will buy you

§  Unemployment is a global phenomenon, not peculiar to the Nigeria alone, but the world over. If you want to get your dream job, you need to put in extraordinary effort by adding to your personality, what you have to offer your employer and stuffs like that.
